HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE INITIATIVE
The Contra Costa Economic Partnership (CCEP), in partnership with the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, Bay Area Health Workforce Partnership, and industry experts, is leading efforts to expand equitable access to healthcare careers. This initiative builds a pipeline of skilled, diverse professionals in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and beyond.
Focus Areas
Expanding EMS Career Pathways: Providing EMTs with paid training to become paramedics while continuing to earn a paycheck.
Developing New Apprenticeships: Creating additional healthcare training pathways, allowing EMTs to advance into roles such as Licensed Clinical Social Workers or Registered Nurses.
Employer Collaboration: Engaging with healthcare providers to align training programs with industry demands and the region’s aging population.
Comprehensive Support Services: Offering full wages during training, academic support, career counseling, and financial assistance with housing, childcare, and transportation.
Equity-Driven Approach: Prioritizing opportunities for individuals from historically underserved communities in Contra Costa County.
Why Healthcare?
Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing industries, offering strong job stability, career advancement, and competitive wages. With rising demand driven by an aging population, healthcare careers provide long-term opportunities for economic mobility.
Equally important, culturally competent care improves patient outcomes and strengthens community health. By building a workforce that reflects the diversity of Contra Costa County, this initiative ensures more effective, compassionate, and community-centered care.
